Strike points are areas on your body that you can use to strike with. There are many different points on your body that can be used effectively, but in this foundation chapter, we’ll keep it simple. If you’re looking for more in-depth information, becoming a member will give you access to advanced content, as this material is more complex to present.

For now, we’ll focus on just the hands and elbows. We’ll highlight three key strike points and explain how to properly use them.

THE KNUCKLES

The index and middle knuckles are the primary points used for striking with the fist. It’s not just about using the front two knuckles; rather, it’s about using them as an extension of your forearm. The key is not just hitting with your hand but using your entire arm in the strike.

Think of it like this: if you imagine your arm as a solid rod instead of a flexible limb, it becomes a more awkward movement. However, your body is a moving, dynamic unit, so you need to flow around this concept. The goal is to strike with power, hitting your target with the full force of the entire arm, not just the knuckles.

THE PALM

The palm strike, made famous by Bas Rutten, is one of the safest and easiest forms of striking. Iconic and widely used in various martial arts systems, it’s a simple yet effective technique.

To execute a palm strike, keep your hand fully open with your fingers curled inward, so the nails are pointing toward the center of your palm. The strike point is the forearm, delivered via the palm. You’re not striking with your hand itself, but rather with the bone in your palm, hitting your target directly.

This is a fast, easy, and highly effective strike that can be used in many situations.

It is important to note: this is the free course. much more details and information are only available to online members and our other membership programs.

THE ELBOW

The elbow is the joint where the upper arm (humerus) connects to the lower arm (radius and ulna). However, when we talk about elbow strikes, we’re not referring to the tip of the elbow, but rather the base of the forearm, where it meets the elbow joint.

Elbow strikes generate power not just from the arm itself, but primarily from the shoulders and through body rotation. The force comes from the core and shoulders as they rotate, transferring energy into the elbow, allowing for powerful and effective strikes.
